A Summer Well Spent – Preparing Classrooms for a Safe School Year Ahead

When schools close for summer, the work doesn’t stop. Summer months are when important building upgrades take place - one of the most critical being roof replacements.

During some of our clients’ roof replacement projects at local schools, they noticed that the existing gypsum roof decks presented serious safety concerns. Over time, old roof and deck had begun to deteriorate, causing gypsum and roofing materials to chip away and fall. This not only creates hazards for the building’s interior but also results in visible damage to ceiling tiles throughout classrooms and common areas. In addition to structural risks, schools are often left with ceiling tiles that are stained, water-damaged, and outdated.

How Nusens Helped

That’s where Nusens comes in. Our team was brought on to perform repairs on interior high structure elements so that students and staff would return in September to a clean and safe environment. Here’s what we did:

  • Removed and  disposed of old, water-damaged tiles
  • Installed a new T-Bar ceiling system and new fire-rated ceiling tiles
  • Completed drywall repairs and painting, giving the classrooms and hallways a fresh and updated look.

The Outcome

With roofers addressing the structural exterior elements, our restoration on the interior helped to resolve immediate risks of falling debris and also gave the school a safer, cleaner, and more modern interior.

Working against strict deadlines, our scope of work was completed before the school year began, allowing students and staff to return to a safe and welcoming learning environment.
