When it comes to re-roofing projects in commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings, the importance of interior protection cannot be overstated. Ceiling Containment Systems (also known as “Interior Protection”) are a temporary barrier that plays a crucial role in shielding the interior from the inevitable dirt, dust, and debris that accompanies construction or re-roofing projects.

Understanding Ceiling Containment Systems

Interior protection involves the installation of temporary horizontal barriers underneath the roof deck before the commencement of a re-roofing project. These barriers act as a shield, preventing dirt, dust, and debris from infiltrating the interior spaces of the building. The goal is to safeguard the facility's contents, machinery, and the overall environment from potential damage during the construction process.

Why it Matters

Preserving Clean Environments

Re-roofing projects inherently generate dust and debris. Interior protection ensures that these particles are contained, maintaining a clean and hygienic environment within the building. Recognizing that different facilities have unique risks, making interior protection mandatory is a proactive step in mitigating potential hazards during re-roofing.

Protecting Valuable Assets

Many facilities often house expensive machinery and equipment. Interior protection shields these assets from potential damage caused by falling debris or dust infiltration. While it may add a step and cost to the re-roofing process, the long-term cost savings by preserving assets and minimizing disruptions make interior protection a wise and cost-effective investment.

Minimizing Disruptions

Operational Continuity: For commercial and institutional buildings, maintaining normal operations is critical. Interior protection minimizes disruptions, allowing businesses and institutions to function smoothly during the re-roofing process.

The Process

Pre-Project Assessment:

Before the re-roofing project begins, an Interior Protection Specialist attends the site to conduct an assessment to identify vulnerable areas and determine the most suitable type of interior protection. They measure the area, determine the difficulty of installation, confirm the height of the roof deck and determine the access & type of machinery that would be necessary for installation and eventual removal. Additionally, our specialists determine the ideal hours for installation to ensure installation during down time or times of minimal facility disruption.

Quoting:

Upon performing a site visit, the Interior Protection Specialist submits a formal quote to the building owner, roofer, business, property manager, or consultant that is in charge of the project. At Nusens, we pride ourselves in our commitment to 24-hour turnaround quotes post site-visit.

Mobilization & Installation:

Once the quote has been signed & accepted and a Purchase Order has been provided, Nusens crews begin their mobilization process. In most cases, we are able to mobilize within a week – coast to coast! We arrive on site with our machinery and material ready to go and begin our installation. In situations where the roofers must start imminently, our staff ensure to communicate with the roofers to install the ceiling containment system in a way that keeps ahead of the roofers’ progress, keeping the facility clean and secure. During the installation, safety spotters are present on the ground to monitor any movement of installation machinery.

Removal:

Once the re-roofing process is completed, the Ceiling Containment System is removed and disposed of, containing all dirt, dust and debris inside of it. In developing our proprietary material, Nu-Ceil™, we wanted to make sure that we weren’t contributing to the growing landfill problem. Nu-Ceil™ is certified Biosustainable™ - this means that the film will degrade 100% and generates zero micro-plastic emmisions.

Interior Protection: A Must-Have for Diverse Facilities

Manufacturing Plants

Manufacturing plants house valuable machinery, and interior protection acts as a shield, preventing dust and debris from compromising the efficiency of these assets.

Warehouses & Storage Facilities

Warehouses often store valuable inventory. Interior protection safeguards against dust and debris, preserving the integrity of stored goods.

Pharmaceutical Facilities

Maintains a controlled environment to uphold the purity of pharmaceutical products.

Hospitals & Healthcare Facilities

In healthcare settings, maintaining a sterile environment is paramount. Interior protection ensures that construction activities do not compromise the cleanliness crucial for patient well-being.

Production Facilities

Production facilities thrive on seamless operations. Interior protection contributes to maintaining operational continuity during roof renovations.

Food Processing Plants

Shields processing environments to comply with strict food safety standards.

Educational Institutions

Uninterrupted Learning: For schools and institutions, interior protection minimizes disruptions during re-roofing, allowing uninterrupted learning activities to continue.

Data Centers & Server Rooms

Safeguards servers and electronic components from contamination, ensuring data reliability and security. Ensures cleanliness to prevent dust and debris from affecting server and networking equipment.

Aerospace Facilities

Essential to prevent foreign particles from affecting the functionality of aerospace components.

During re-roofing projects, having protective ceiling containment systems isn't just a box to check – it's a game-changer for keeping a facility in top-notch condition. As we meticulously consider the intricacies of re-roofing challenges, the implementation of protective ceiling containment systems emerges not just as a precautionary measure but as an art of ensuring that the particles unleashed during the re-roofing process are captured, contained, and prevented from compromising the sanctity of the building interior. We're the folks who understand that a successful roofing project isn't just about what happens above; it's about how we safeguard the operation underneath. In advocating for these measures, we collectively raise the bar for construction excellence, ensuring that each re-roofing project not only revitalizes the structure above but also preserves the vitality of the spaces below.
